I have snake underpants!

« on: November 18, 2008, 05:25:58 PM »

Start thinking about what type of character you would like to run in a new campaign.  This is a great chance to play something different from your usual style, and Randy might even NOT be a fighter.

A few rules:

1)  No races that aren't in the player's handbook.
2)  We will start in a western-style setting, but that will change.
3)  If you want to run a class from a supplemental book, check with me first.
4)  No pirates or ninjas.  That's just stupid.

Of course, rules are meant to be broken.  If there is something you really want to do, let me know.

PM me with any questions.

Oh we are playing characters in the WWWest?  I am the midget steam boat captain pirate, whose bodyguard/servant is a ninja named bombasu.

Well, I guess I should have said western influenced.  I like me some good spaghetti westerns, and I hope the game reflects that.  It will, however, still be D&D.

Thanks to Ryan and Pete for the input!  Ya'll really are helping me to get a handle on this.

To better explain:
I would like ya'll to come up with some characters to run in a D&D game I am planning.  So far, I have only planned out the bare bones of the overall story arc, and I would like to fill in the gaps with encounters that are based around your specific PCs.  I hope you will provide me (via PM) with stats, class, and a basic background soon so that I can add you into the story.  It would be fun for me and hopefully you as well.  The game is not a western--it is D&D.  In this particular world, you will all essentially be "strangers in a strange land."  You will all be from an (as yet unnamed) great continent.  The kingdom that rules this continent has gone on to establish colonies on two smaller continents--to the southwest, a hotter, drier country; to the northwest, one that is cold and wintry.  You will all start as adventurers on the southern one, with races and classes from the players handbook (if you want to run a class from one of the supplements, or want to bend the rules a bit to play a character with a twist, let me know and I'll see if it works).
I have been tinkering around with stat generation, and have come up with the following method.  It is based on a method from the GMs handbook, and I think it's called the organic method (but don't hold me to that).  To gain your stats, roll 4d6 and subtract the lowest.  This is your strength.  Then do dex, and on down the line.  Now reroll the lowest.  At this point you can switch two sets of points (i.e.- your 9 str for your 16 int, and your 10 con for your 15 wis).  My reasoning for this is to keep the characters from becoming completely super-heroic and and having some potential flaws (i.e.- the thuggish, brutish lout of a fighter who is strong and hearty, but has a low dex).  You can only do this once.  If you show me three 18s, I will have my doubts. Please be honest.
I already have two player characters, a cleric and a fighter.  I am excited about these characters because they are very different from the characters that Pete and Ryan have run in Sandford's campaign, and I am interested in seeing how they play them.  I hope ya'll branch out and try new things, and I hope you get back to me soon so I can plan around them.
Also, Paul cannot be a barbarian.

If you have any input, I'd love to hear it.

Let me know what the name of this game will be and I will consider making a forum for it...as soon as you let me play a barbarian. I'm thinking she will be a female barbarian named Hanna (in case Mike is lurking).

I will not be playing, though if you wish to give me a character please make me a hermaphroditic dwarf with tourettes.  I am playing a new game On Thursdays starting in march.  its called 'poop the monkey' and involves a lot of bodily wastes, screaming, cuddling, and singing.  Its almost like going to a mega-church.
